Acquring an Assistance Canines

Through our Autism Assistance Canine Program, families can become empowered to take positive steps towards promoting the health, positive development and autonomy of their child.

Criteria for Interested Families

Typically, the best results come from families who have:

• A child diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder between the ages of 2 and 10 at the time of the application.
• Positively exposed and socialized their child to dogs in the past.
• At least one parent/guardian who is present at home during weekdays if the child is not yet in school.
• The emotional, physical, and financial preparedness to meet the needs of an Autism Assistance Canine and be a responsible dog owner.
• The ability to provide a stable home environment, including regular exercise, grooming and vet care.
• Demonstrated that they are actively pursuing the goal of increased independent living and improved quality of life for their child.
• A permanent residence in the province of Quebec (we prioritize families living in Quebec, followed by those outside the province).

Currently it takes 2 years, from time of acceptance, to receive an Autism Assistance Canine.
